The concept of "Smorrebrod" is Danish for "Smorr" meaning butter and "Brod" meaning Danish Rye Bread.
Michael and Hazel Knox-Johnston opened 1066 at the Chequers in April 2017
Michael, a global hotelier started his career at the Mayfair Hoel in London where he trained under one of the great chefs. There followed positions in 5 star hotels and sporting estates in South Africa, The Indian sub-continent, Europe and the Caribbean.
With his wealth of experience, knowledge and vision for a small fine food restaurant, Michael
designed his lunch time Smorrebrod menu using fresh and local foods wherever possible.
The evenings are for private dinners and parties, minimum 8 guests. These dinners are exclusive. Fridays and Saturdays in the summer months, we offer authentic Tapas on the Terrace. During the winter months on Fridays and saturdays, we host authentic Tapas in the Tavern supported by a varied quality wine list.
Our restaurant is both elegant and comfortable with relaxing soft jazz music in the background
ensuring our guests a fully enjoyable dining experience.
